Behind the back (2022)

Behind the back features a series of four photographs that explore the meaning of a specific type of body language: holding one's own hands behind their back. While this posture can be associated with discipline, control and authority in some cultures, it can also be a very calm and relaxed posture or used to convey shyness, nervousness, or discomfort in other contexts.

Through these images, I aim to capture and document the nonverbal communication that takes place through this posture and how it is connected to age, gender, and other social and cultural factors. The project encourages viewers to reflect on how body language and nonverbal communication have evolved over time and how photography has influenced this development.
